If there was really a vote

for the MVP Smoky Joe Wood would receive some love.

It is like the year Felix Hernandez won the CY, (Although Felix ERA was much better than Wood's) the Philly Athletics are 12-9 in Smoky's 21 starts. Which means they are 9-59 When anyone other than Joe takes the mound. Yikes!

in 1972 Steve Carlton won 27 games and the Cy Young award. His team only won 59 games, so it can happen in real life. Here's a link, that logo is probably why they were so bad. https://www.baseball-reference.com/teams/PHI/1972.shtml

Heres another list of good pitchers on bad teams https://www.wsj.com/articles/SB10000872 ... 3611720778

And Lefty got a $100k raise for his effort. At the same time, they paid Schmidt $15k. 1972 was a sea change year for MLB.
