Baseball logic

Post by dabigtrain »

I'm not sure how we'd put this in action, but there are times that obvious baseball logic is ignored in the sim.

For instanace:

http://www.simdynasty.com/boxscore.jsp? ... eid=697625

Bottom ninth, home team down 10-3.
Inning: 9 Cincinnati
Bill Harbridge singles to right field.
Mike Magrane grounds out to the pitcher.
Bill Harbridge advances to second on the play.
Uriah Jones is pinch hitting for Yuichiro Ito. Pinch hitting for the pitcher because it is the last at bat.
Uriah Jones strikes out.
Wild pitch, all runners advance a base.
Lou Sylvester walks.
Lou Sylvester is out trying to steal second (2B covering 2nd).

Losing 10-3, runners at the corners, two out in the ninth, and the runner on first tries to steal? Never gonna happen. Anyone who has played the game knows that your only hope is to stand on 1st base and pray for a three-run homer, followed by another miracle. I see this often, and every time, I think "something is amiss here, that play would get the runner on first sent to the minors so quickly he wouldn't have time to check out of the hotel."

Agreed with this, and also reminds me of another not very logical baseball situation that I've posted about here before: when there's a pitching change following a stolen base (because it triggers the rule to remove a pitcher if there's a runner on 2nd or 3rd).

In the grand scheme of things not the biggest deal, but unless you're hurt you're probably not getting removed mid AB.
