Update from Admin Chris (Feb 5)

Post by ballmark »

I just received this from Admin Chris for the SimD community (I help them with their FB page; nothing site-related, but occasionally post general news of MLB interest; that's how we're connected).
So sorry I haven't been more interactive, been buried in code. The short version is that many parts of the platform being restored aren't the exact same versions so there are a lot of little incompatibilities to iron out, and in many cases it's easier to finish updates that were in progress rather than work backwards. But progress is moving better than expected and I may be able to have some testers in this weekend or next if all goes well.

On the plus side, being forced to clean house and start over is going to make future work and updates a lot easier.

Thanks for sharing the update.

Do you know if everything will be restored back to where it was when the site comes back online? Or will leagues have to start over from scratch?

Honestly, I just don't know. But if I read between the lines I'd say the leagues will pick back up where they left off, but rolled back to the day of the original outage.

I would guess that for a brief time, Admin will be kept busy upon return fixing all the bits and pieces of code that will break once a mass user return starts hitting every bit of the site, but he did say that this rebuild will make it much easier to install upgrades once we get past the initial return rush and everything is finally running smoothly again.

Thanks for the update; it's MUCH appreciated!!

Also, please let Chris know that the vast majority of us understand that the problem isn't easy to fix, and that we appreciate his hard work and efforts.
