Oakland 5 Toronto 2

Cleveland has improved to 6-9 by winning four straight and have been 4-1 since the controversial trade with Oakland. The two players receive in that trade, Manny Haas and Ernie Morton played central roles in the victory. Morton and Haas have given Cleveland some instant offense since arriving and being put in the starting line up.

Haas has batted .364 with one homerun and six runs batted in and Morton has impressed with a .458 batting average with one homerun and three RBI.

The Assassins swept Minnesota by scores of 5-4, 8-4 and 8-3.

In game three Mike Harper, the second of three pitchers used by Cleveland picked up the win (2-1 record...3.1 IP allowing just one hit striking out four).

Cleveland's starting pitcher George Pyecha left with two outs in the 5th inning after Joe Wilke put Minnesota ahead 3-2. Harper came in and struck out Jim Head to keep the score at 3-2.

Manny Haas hit a two run homerun, his first, in the first inning, to put Cleveland in front for a short time, 2-0.

Haas singled to start the 6th and Minnesota starter Tom Johnson walked Bob Hewitt to put two onwith no outs Two outs later Chance Clift singed in both runners.

Billy Cooley replaced Johnson (LP 1-1) and he gave up a two run homerun to Mike McGaffigan. That put Cleveland ahead 6-2.

McGaffigan hit his second homer of game and 3rd of the season in the 8th inning to make the final score 8-3.


Seattle 6 LA 2

Seattle kept pace with Oakland with their sixth consecutive win.

Cowboy Shannon (1-1) got the win. Shannon was the second of three pitchers used by Seattle in this game.

The loss was Los Angeles ninth straight loss.

Los Angeles starting pitcher Doc Wilson took the loss after he left in the fifth inning with one out with a strained elbow that sent him vto the disabled list after the game.

Lou Valo had a noteworthy game. His error let in two runs yet his two run homerun kept him out of the manager's dog house and he got sympathy points for being hit by a pitch.

Struggling Los Angeles was held to just two runs on three hits in the game and fell to to 5-10.


Oakland 5 Toronto 2

Oakland's ace, Dave Terlecki won his league best fourth game in four decisions by going eight innings giving up six hits and two earned run with nine strikeouts.

Terlecki is first in wins, innings pitched (32.1) and third in strikeouts (29) and ERA (1.93).

Clay Lambright came on to pitch the ninth to give oft used Johnny Kingman the game off and he was impressive, striking out one of the three batters he faced, to earn his second save.

Offensively Oakland erased a early 1-0 early Toronto lead. Second baseman Mark Sullivan singled to right field. Right fielder Joey Brede singled past a diving first baseman Art Fishburn sending Sullivan to third base. Sullivan scored on a ground out to shortstop Pop Williams by Eric Baker.

Brede scored on an throwing error by pitcher Julio Farrell.

2-1 Oakland.

Mike Pena's singled, stole second and scored on a single to centerfield by Clyde Dedrick.

3-1 Oakland.

Pena did it again in the 5th inning. Pena walked, stole second (5th) and scored on Mark Sullivan's single to left.

Bob Bailey walked stole second and scored on Fred Thompson's RBI single.
